Apple is NOT Bringing Sexy Back

In the latest move by Big Brother society we live in, Apple has issued a release stating that they are removing 5,000 apps that they deem to be overtly sexual in nature.  One notable they discussed is Chillifresh’s Wobble iBoob app that apparently triggered this censorization by Apple.  Apple’s new policy towards apps include the following policies: no images of women in bikinis, men in bikinis, skin ( talk about as general as you get), sihouettes indicating a sexual image and sexual connotations or innuendo.

There are two ways to look at this.  One this is a direct violation of our first amendment rights to freedom of speech, press etc.  On the other Apple could be “claiming” to be family-friendly with this decision. My opinion is that they are attempting to weed out small vendor such as Chillifresh because they are a juggernaut who thinks they can get away with it.  The article also stated that they haven’t censored any Playboy related apps.  Interesting? I’m of the belief that Playboy probably pays them a little bit more than Chillifresh but I don’t want to start accusing anyone of anything……I work for an attorney and you can guarantee that he would have a field day with this.  Ultimately, are our rights being taken for granted here or does Apple have the right since they own the platform and ability to use the app? All I want to know is what is Apple’s agenda in all of this and why target only sex apps and why not apps where you can shoot people or other violent-tinged apps? I guess only time will tell.

Sports Watch:  One word Ram’s ownership, “Vick”.  That’s all and go USA! and the reps to the men’s hockey team from the Blues.

  1. There is always a conflict when the hardware vendors control entrance to the market. A similar problem happened when Microsoft tried to control entrance to the market — for example, web browsers. Users don’t take to that well. I would like to see some view of what the press has said about this … how upset is the community? How upset is the press? My money is that there will be a legal battle … and my guess is that the battle will begin in Europe where they tend to be more willing to press such issues (and where they have a more lenient view of sexuality too).
